But I mistated my point in my last paragraph. I meant to say, "...those who took the path to the professional ranks that was straightest, at the time they chose to take that path."

Arnold Jacobs decided to pursue professional music at an early age, and apparently Mr. Robinson only made that decision after having earned a general education and after pursuing other possibilities. Once the decision was made, however, the path for both went just as RA suggested--individual training at the hands of a top pro (or groups of pros).
