Right now is an excellent time to audition as a tubist or euphoniumist as we are short fleet-wide. To successfully pass your audition you will be required to play your scales, a prepared piece and a lot of sight reading. Once you pass your audition, are accepted into the Navy Music Program and pass your MEPS screening, you will attend boot camp in Great Lakes, Illinois. Then, six months (or less, depending on your skill level) of the Armed Forces School of Music in Little Creek, VA.

Being in the Navy gives you a chance to see the world and earn a good steady paycheck, all while playing your instrument. The key is to remember that you are a musician AND a sailor. Yes, some bands do deploy on ships. Those bands rehearse while at sea, then perform for locals and dignitaries in port. The other bands, stateside bands, cover regional areas performing various military ceremonies and helping to support retention and recruiting.

Navy Fleet Bands are located in: Newport, RI; Norfolk, VA; Jacksonville, Fl; New Orleans, LA; Memphis, TN; Great LAkes, Il; Seattle, WA; San Diego, CA; Pearl Harbor, HI; Japan; and two in Italy.

For more information, please feel free to email me or visit the Navy Music Program website.
