I do not play tuba, but I do play euphonium in church about two times a month (two services per week, so early and late get to her it). I play a lot of the Brentwood Music hymn arrangements with their orchestral accompaniment CDs. The accompaniment tracks are very well done and tasteful. I just Finaled (I think I just turned a commercial product into a verb) the vocal line. The arrangements usually have a short intro, the tune twice, a short transition, and then the tune a half step higher with a tag. On the second time through the head, I play an obbligatto and then play the tune again, in the higher key. These seem to work very well for my ultra-conservative Presbyterian congregation. Since I have my horn there, I play obligatti with the organist on the rest of the hymns. It is a great thing to give God back some of the gift He has given me.
