I understand that everyone has their own opinion, but did anyone ever think that this high school band could be stacked with middle schoolers to make up for last years big senior class? My middle school students are great kids but working up an entire program still takes mire time than with more experienced players. Maybe they had another event scheduled on the same day. Maybe someone waited till the day before to call and ask them perform (It has happened to me, I said no thank you). In my experience as a teacher, I've found that people seem to think that we sit around the band room waiting for someone to call us to move move our equipment, book buses, and rehearse any requested song within 24 hours. It doesn't work that way and it is contrary to my number 1 rule of band directing "If you can't do it right, don't do it".
