It's always hard to switch horns - either from a smaller horn to a larger horn (baritone to tuba)or vice versa. The extreeme registers are hard to develop, espescially on limited practice time. But, since you are acclimated to smaller horns (euphoniums), my bet is that the smaller tuba was a bit more your speed. That's why the little tuba was easier to play low on. Before you blame your tuba, take a lesson with a REALLY good player - someone in a Class A orchestra maybe - and have him play on it. My guess it could be more your fault than you may think. I wouldn't sweat it too much yet....you've only been playing 2 years of tuba. See how it plays in two more years.
