Here' even a better idea. Use a case or nothing. I almost always use a case, but occasionally I use nothing: I slide the tuba on the back seat floor of the car and carry the tuba in to the gig on my shoulder. Gee, it works...especially when I don't drop it (just as if it were in a bag!).
So far, I haven't bought a gig bag that holds a 6-pack of Cokes, either. The same principle would apply.
