Dear Sir,
I play a Besson BE 982 Sovereign EEb Tuba. I am currently using a yamaha Bobo Solo mouthpiece (cup diam.: 32.2mm; rim: semiflat; cup: semi shallow; throat: 7.5mm). However, I 'm not very happy with it because when I am playing I would like to have a more comfortable mouthpiece with warmer, mellower and more powerful sound. When playing loudly, especially in high register, I am also feeling airpressure against my lips from the same air I blow in, which I think may be due to the semi shallow cup. I play a lot with bands and I play also musica di cappella in churches, I find my sound very bright with my colleagues and for the type of music we play.
I was thinking of buying the Perantucci heavy shell PT-88+ (cup diam.: 33.5mm; rim: flat, well-defined inner edge; cup: wide deep cup; throat: 8.1mm). Do you think it is suitable for my instrument? Will it make the higher register a difficult task?
What difference does the heavy shell design mouthpiece (PT-88 + ) make from the normal PT-88?
What do you think of my choice, will it help me? If not what do you suggest?
Regards,
Marco Curmi
