A Moennig NY tuba

To me Moennig, the proper spelling being Mönnig, always has meant high class, but not elegantly designed, French horns out of the former GDR.

So I was kind of surprised, when this morning's incoming mail told me of a NY tubamaker Moennig.

Even more surprised I was, when trying to find the valve spatulas. They were there, but being of a type, that I never saw on upright tubas before.

The illustration above these lines shows a close up of the valve mechanism (yes, the 4th valve "bottom" cap is missing).

No age of this instrument was given, but the valve mechanism has similarities to those of the over-the-shoulder-era.
