I've got a Grand Rapids BBb from, oh, about 1915 and a monster Eb from the 1890's (says "J.W. York and Son"). The Eb bell is shorter and "fatter" than the BBb bell, although the bottom and top bows are the same on both horns--after that, they're different. The older horn has wider ferrules and the side bow has a cap on it, in addition to the usual guard wire. The silverplating on the old one is also much heavier.

My situation right now is that the 3-banger 0.750" valve set is pretty tight for the BBb and I have a spare 4-valve 0.655" front-action York Eb cluster that would fit fine on the old (top-action) monster Eb. So I'm wondering if I should just put everything together and sell both horns, or should I take a gamble at getting a decent CC out of the pile of parts. RIght now, it's mostly a matter of what solders to what. Both horns are diassembled and de-dented.
