There are several flaws in the design of the DEG stand I bought a few years ago. Perhaps some have been fixed, but not on the ones in stock at my local music store.
1. It was not strong enough for a heavy horn. There was substantial slippage until I replaced the adjustment screw with a heavier one and scored the shank to give more "traction."
2. The rubber-like material that was inside the concave part that supported the tuba readily came unglued. It also made a terrible squeaking noise when damp with a tuba moving around.
3. The rubber feet tend to slip off. It's bad enough having another piece of equipment to lug around without having to keep up with parts of it slipping off.
4. For my purposes, the stand would not extend suffiently. It's ok for someone who needs to put the horn below the level of the chair, but quite limited in terms of lifting the horn.
