Most people wouldn't be able to admit that an edited tape misrepresented their true abilities. For this very reason, many colleges ask for unedited tapes. Back when I was auditioning, one school asked for a tape for the first round, but did all of the following rounds live to compare you against how well your tape turned out to see what level you really played at.
