A parallel to what you say woul be if someone were to attend, say, a Britney Spears concert and wind up hearing her perform mostly opera hits (ouch, my ears hurt thinking about that), or attending an Incubus concert and hearing nothing but Beethoven.
I''ve heard some pretty decent "rock" covers of classical tunes, and some excellent band/symphonic covers of rock (symphonic Led Zeppelin comes to mind), but I agree that each should devote the majority of performance to the "normal" genre. That's why most people go to see each type of show.
