As a former Gerogia high school student, I can agree that Georgia is in BAD need of teachers. But it's also obvious which teachers have been around a long time, and which ones have been through the new school of education thought. The 'older' teachers' students are typically the ones who are LEARNING....while the new teachers hand out worksheets or play monopoly all day for an econ class (an example).

Where I went to high school, though, having one of the two teachers witha Ph.D was NOT a good thing. The school was more concerned about getting grants and "furthering the teachers education" and conferences and banquets and generally kept them so busy with politics that they didn't have time to teach.

The two best teachers i had in high school had degrees in their field, not in education. They obviously had lower level education degrees, but their Masters and Specialist degrees were in Mathematics and Chemistry, respectively. They KNEW the subject, and they had "different" teaching methods from everyone else.
