How about "no one here can 'elaborate' on statments made by a friend of a friend".
Has this retailer said these things to *you*, or just your students? Did you ask what he meant by it? What mix of brand names does he sell? At what margins? Have you played some of these "new, dis-improved" instruments? How do you evaluate them?
Can you elaborate?
