It would depend. If Walter Nirschl hand-tweaks the machine-made instruments, I'm pretty sure they would be virtually indistinguishable from the ones he hammered himself. But if it's a fellow at the Boosey and Hawkes factory doing the tweaking, I wouldn't have that confidence.

But I have played Meinl-Weston 2155's, and I've played Meinl-Weston 2000's, and the difference is supposedly that the latter is hand-made. In my own experience, it is definitely a better instrument, but I suspect the careful hand-tweaking has more to do with that than the hand-hammering.
