I vote for the instrument. I didn't much care for the tuba sound when i started out. To me it was an instrument replacment for me, i used to play bass guitar as my major instrument, but I pretty much came close to giving myself tendonitus, so i had to switch.
The sound of the instrument.....I love now. It's sound reminds of me of the large German basso's commonly heard in opera's. It can be such a throaty powerful sound. But also completely beautiful in its mid to high range. Go tuba all the way!
