Well, I started working on a lip trill my freshman year in college. After working on it for about a year and a half, I got it to where I was comfortable using it in an audition. I know it sounds like a long time, but I've never had to worry about it since.
A great sounding trill on the most frequently asked excerpt is the sort of thing that an audition committee really likes to hear.
