Technically, a tuba and sousa are the same. I enjoy playing a sousa or bell-front tuba much more that an upright tuba because they project a lot better. Generally, I use a sousa for outside gigs, a bell-front recording tuba for inside oom-pah and Dixieland gigs, and an upright tuba for those rare times when I must play quietly.
