Okay - I'm going to say FIRST that I am primarily a reed doubler - so this may be no help...
HOWEVER....If you are able to set up some kind of screen to set the "other" tuba behind, and walk behind to switch...
When I double and am in a cold pit, thus setting up intonation fears for cold instruments, i will warm everything up, the wrap the bigger ones, like the tenor sax et al in small blankets to insulate them. I even set a heating pad on the lowest setting and then a blanket, then put a flute on top of it, then covered the flute up for a time when I had a scary solo line and a guarenteed stone cold instrument. it worked like a charm. Could you be inventive and do something like this with the tuba behind the screen? Warm it up real good, then put a thermal blanket around it or something?
Good luck , and let us know how (and what) you did.
