You can't really compare these two tubas, as they are so different. The B&S is large, the Alex is small. B&S had a big, full sound, the Alex is sweet and light. the B&S is a good orchestral F tuba, the Alex is more of a solo horn. You can use the B&S in quintet as a main tuba, the Alex is too small. the Alex plays 'Bydlo' great, the B&S is more of a push. "Fantastique" is wonderful on the Alex, as is Petrushka. I'll use it on Mahler 1 solo, as you can play REALLY softly on it.
