Graham,

I use two different ones on my CB50. My CB Arnold Jacobs works better for solo work, quintet work and just getting all over the horn. For loud band playing I use a PT 83. In a nutshell, the PT 83 gives me a louder fundamental and the CBAJ gives me more color possibilities making it easier to blend and create subtle changes in mood/character. This combination works well for me. By playing a lot on both mouthpieces (and using another one for my F and playing a good deal of bass trombone) I don't really have much difficulty switching between mouthpieces.

I know different things work for different people and the most important aspect is to practice and use your imagination. Having said that, often a mouthpiece that is not well suited for a player can sometimes be too much to overcome. These two CC mouthpieces just seem to work for me very well with the least obstacles.

John
