Ralph Vaughan Williams wrote a very cute piece for the tuba, and its significance lies more in the length and scope of this piece and in the notariety of its composer than in its sublimity. There innumerable pieces/etudes that could be pursued to your musical and technical benefit.

On a piece of notebook paper, start listing minor luxuries that you endulge in weekly (coke machine, candy bar, video rental, etc.). Surely one or two weeks of "lent" from a few trivial luxuries, or the generation of funds via cutting people's lawns for the last time of the season and/or leaf raking would furnish you with the funds to avoid stealing sheet music...
