When crossing the border, either way, be certain you have the bill of sale for your horns so there is no mistake aout their origin. This can make your life much simpler. You may, however be able to clear your horns through customs in either city of origin. If you do, your horns will be loaded when that process is complete.
About United. I saw Harvey Phillip's Conn after it had been crushed by a baggage truck. Harvey looked at the horn (we were in his house, at the tuba ranch) and sighed: "Everything I have, this house, the ranch, I earned with that horn and now look at it."
