I certainly agree with BP that the PT-6 has a nice sound. However, his perception that "they just don't cut through enough and sound small for their size" puzzles me. Some years ago I heard Peter Wahrhaftig (one of the premier tubists in the SF Bay area) play his PT-6 in the San Francisco Ballet production of Prokofiev's "Romeo and Juliet" at the cavernous SF Opera house. I can assure you he ably demonstrated the awesome playing abilities of both himself and his horn. What a huge, dark sound.
By the way, does anyone know which leading U.S. orchestral players have PT-6's as part of their arsenal of tools?
