I have to use a bell cover for rehearsal, and I must say that I can notice a definate sound difference. With the bell cover it seems more stuffy, not as free-blowing, perhaps even muddy, at times. Without there is more ring in the bell. Because of this it becomes easier to "blat". I think that without it sounds better, as long as one doesn't "blat". Now, it may be different on a fiberglass horn, as we use the silver horns here.
