Seal up the leaks with bubble gum and duct tape and give'em hell! This summer I coached at a "jazz camp". There was a shortage of tuba and bass players, so I brought some extra horns for the other instructors (a pianist and a trombonist) to use. One of those instruments was a Conn 22K tupperware sousaphone. What struck me was how well I could hear it over great distances, cutting through the cacaphony. It sounded as if the rest of the band and all the other bands were hardly playing at all. When I played it I felt that I had to work pretty hard but apparently that effort goes into the distance instead of into the ears of the player. That's the horn I am going to take with me to the Suncoast Classic Jazz festival in florida this November. It's not my favorite, but it won't worry me on the airplane.
