The Yamaha F's are just as good as any other company's. They play nothing like the Miraphone or Meinl Weston you have tried, but they are nonetheless valid in their own right. It just depends on what you are after.
As far as the financial position. I would try to make the financial consideration very low on my list of what decides the instrument. I bought a Besson 983 Eb because it was financed and it was "ok" to me. I sold it within one year at a loss of almost $1,000 because I realized that I could not get the sound I wanted for me from it. Someone else bought it, who I hope fit the horn better than I.
It is cheaper to spend a few dollars more now, rather than take a hit later and still end up purchasing the "right" horn for you at that later date.
