I started on trombone when my older brother quit. Hey, we had the instrument just laying around...
When I got to high school I wanted to give the valve thing a shot. I spent half a year on euph, then promptly got upgraded to sousaphone for the marching band because my mom told the band director that I "always wanted to play the tuba!" By my sophomore year I was a tromboninst in a jazz band, a euph in the concert band, a sousa in the marching (stumbling) band, and an electric bass for the basketball band.
If I'd had half a brain, I would have started charging my band director extra!
