I started on Tuba in 6th grade (a fiberglass sousa), in 1971. I quit about 20 times between 6th and 8th grade. Then I started having lessons with a HS Senior, he ticked me off, so I practiced to kick his ****.

I picked up Trombone in 8th grade, because they were having way to much fun in jazz band (read: girls). I migrated to Euphonium when necessary, to cover the parts.

Played a bit in College and flirted with becoming a music major, but everyone with a music degree ended up working at Menards (substitute Home Depot, for those of you who do not live in the midwest). I went into law enforcement, and now am a govt. planner. Lugging around a brass sousa was great practice for use-of-force exercises. One of the other tuba players in my community band is law enforcement too (where's that perfect job thread?)

Tuba is still my favorite instrument.
