My information is that this is a little played arrangement, not sanctioned by Glinka, that substitutes a tuba part for the contrabassoon part. Not so uncommon a thing, something that has been tried in Brahms symphonies (other than the 2nd) and even Beethoven 9th. I put this one in the same league as the Koegel arrangement of La Gazza Ladra which has a tuba part. In Rossini. Hah! Matt Good's suggestion is the right one: burn and shred.
