Sorry, I have to disagree with you. If i'm not mistaken, Berlioz later wrote it for 2 tubas, after the tuba was invented, because he liked it's sound much better than the ophicleide's. I remember reading it somewere(I can't remember) that Berlioz said to the effect that the tubas' tone was much purer and stronger, and had much more clarity. The ophicleide sound won't fit in today's orchestra. That's why we use the tuba.
