Am I the only person bothered by a professor encouraging a student to go against another professor? Hint: This is nothing but trouble for the weakest member of that trio--the student. If the tuba prof thinks it's a crime against tubadom, then he should make the case himself, it seems to me. If I was the student in question, I'd RESPECTFULLY suggest that, as in "Prof, this is not a battle I feel I should tackle, because I don't want to make enemies at this university. My own research indicates that the conductor's view is at least reasonable, and I'd rather choose a battle where my own principles are on the line. Perhaps you might talk to the conductor if you feel strongly about it?" That may not earn you bonus points with the tuba prof, but it won't earn you demerits either. Arguing with the conductor will.
