I'm glad that you pointed out that this is the instrument that Ravel had in mind. I've always thought that the usual dark and smooth, German F tuba approach just sounded wrong - not enough stress and strain in depicting that bloody ox cart (other than occassionally missing the high G#, of course). I always liked the way Bobo played Bydlo, because he really put some dynamics into it - not too prettyfied. OK, flame away.
