In the case of this particular band parent, he will save a significant amount of money buying a BBb tuba, his son probably already knows these fingerings, and there is ABSOLUTELY no reason a good BBb tuba won't do everything the young tubist needs. If at a later date the young tubist decides that a professional career on tuba is in the cards, then he can consider whether or not a CC would provide any advantage, and would be worth the extra expense. Remember, there are professional, orchestral tubists who are performing very successfully on BBb tubas as their main instrument. Refer to recent threads on this list for the details.
