My father always used an old Martin Eb mouthpiece with that horn. Intonation was fine. It's smaller than a Helleberg, and has an Eb-tuba shank that fit the receiver properly, not like the full-sized BBb shanks that everybody seems to like now even on small tubas. An old-style Eb tuba mouthpiece has a shank about the size of a Bass Trombone mouthpiece shank, but of course the cup is larger. The old conn had a receiver that size.
Another thought: I have an old Besson Euphonium that was originally built for high pitch. When I pull the slide out enough to get it down to 440 I find that low Bb and A are very flat relative to the rest of the range. Could the Eb Conn be suffering from a similar problem? Its W-shaped tuning slide seems to be a correction for high pitch.
