I play a Wilson EEb with a Conn 2 mouthpiece. I have played F tuba but prefer to play this current set up rather than playing any F tuba I have ever found. On the record "Bill Bell and His Tuba," Bill Bell playes most of the works on an Eb sousaphone. This Sousaphone was shared by Bell and my teacher, George Black, and kept in a locker at
Grand Central Station. George said it was an unremarkable horn but a good one, overall.
I don't think you need an F OR an EEb; I think you need a good horn regardless of its pitch. 983s are just one of several different models available which work although I think their manufacturing is substandard, even compared to the design of the horn itself.
