well, in the U.S. it tends to vary from state to state. Most common is 1-6. I don't know the official ratings, but just for points of reference, I would rate the Haddad at about a 4. I've seen the Vaughan Williams at 5 though.... which leaves a huge margin between the two. If you were to put the RVW at level 6, where would you put the Plog Miniatures, or the Penderecki, then? So move haddad down to Grade 3... now it's the same level "The Egotistical Elephant". a 1-10 system would be more effective, but as far as I know there isn't any international "standard" as of yet.

how exactly are pieces rated? By the publishers? Composers? has anyone made any significant effort in trying to come up with an efficient grading system? thanks.
