My Conn jumbo is not really hard to march with, since the center of gravity stays relatively low- I'd really hate to have a contra that weighed that much, though! I'd suggest, in answer to the original question, that it would be much cheaper to have a good repairman fix up the old sousaphones, and if the program then has money left-over to spend on the tuba section, upgrade your concert tubas or buy mouthpieces.
