Selmer doesn't own U.M.I. to my understanding. They are now under the same umbrella, but the chain of command isn't with Selmer on top.

Selmer could have easily made a decent tuba. They didn't even have to make any new parts:
- They had a decent size .730" bore (approx.) valveset on their Bundy sousaphone that could have been fitted to the Olds body.
- They could have easily made that 3 valve .730" cluster into a four valve cluster.
- They could have easily cut down the Olds/Bach to a CC, much as *King did their "Symphony Bass" BBb (sorry, non-believers) to knock out the Conn CC.

Now, of course, Selmer is stenciling Yamaha. Obviously, they just never G.A.S. about tubas, or baritones for that matter.

*No company that was willing to toss in the trash what remained of the California-Benge trumpet tooling and resort to stamping "Benge" on King "Cleveland" trumpets is going to have the initiative to build a CC tuba from "scratch" just to sell a few hundred of them.
