Yes, yes!! But we did things like this all of the time, and had a really big studio (35ish) with which to work. I agree, a valiant attempt, but with a small sampling.
But I have used that info when comparing horns...it has helped a great deal when purchasing specialty instruments. It is a good way to make a mental starting point for direct comparison, if nothing else. The results of several of our student-initiated examinations of tubas were surprising and informative. I really think that these things should be done at TUBA events...large group testing and the like. It would certainly be better for our collective good to spent a whole convention making real research advances than to have yet another massed tuba ensemble! All IMHO, I assure you...
