Having the mute in the bell at the correct depth is a good point to mention. I think this is something that a lot of people over look. Depth in the bell is one of the reasons that the R&S Mutes are so popular. You can adjust exactly how far the mute goes in. I just don't have the patience to deal with all those adjustment points! :) (Those of you that know me could just picture me trying to set one of those mutes up correctly!) That's why I like the H&B. However, I had never thought about just adjusting the position of the corks on my H&B. I might just have to give that a try.
