I'm not completely sure this is related but what you had to say about trends in sound concepts provoked a thought. I should also point out that I'm not at all associated with the L.A. recording studio scene and am very possibly making lots of bad assumptions. Hopefully someone in the know will point it out if I'm making too much of an a$$ of myself.

Anyhow...
I have a theory that the reason many of the recording studio guys continue to use Miraphone, and Yamaha horns while the rest of tubadom has moved to more colorful horns is that the Miraphones and Yamahas have a sound that records well and is easier to manipulate in a sound booth. They tend to be very middle of the road sound wise and efficient enough to rest easy on the chops for long recording sessions.
