It seems to me that there is a fundamental difference between recording music for a living, and flipng burgers, making jockey shorts, or producing automobiles.

As I see it, the difference is that the owners of the companies that sell burgers, shorts, and cars can make money only ONCE from the sale of their product. Films, on the other hand (videos too), and CDs can be endlessly reproduced, creating profit for the OWNERS well into the future. Why should the people who's creativity/artistry is being duplicated for profit, not also share in that future profit?
