I didn't find the switch from tuba to Euphonium hard at all. My sound on the euph leaves something to be desired, but I can play its full range. I did, however, find that it improved the my upper register on my tuba.
As for the difference between a Euphonium and Baritone horn, its like the difference betweem a Cornet and a Trumpet.
The Euphonium is a more conical instrument, giving it a darker sound. This is the same reason a Cornet has a darker sound than a scrumpet.. err...trumpet. And then same reason a Flugel Horn has a darker sound than a Cornet
