As a purely amateur player, I can afford my horns because I have a very well paying job at which I work at least 70 hours per week. Even so it is a matter of careful budgeting and prioritizing spending. If you analyze every penny you spend for a month you can usually find $10 to $50 per month spent on things which you could really do without. Try it and see. Then make sure to take that money out of each paycheck and put it in a fund specifically for your music. With patience you will save enough to buy what you need. Just don't try to get everything at once through credit cards or loans. That is a very dangerous path to start down.
