They were satin. Has anyone seen a silver horn from the 20's/30's that was polished silver and NOT satin? Perspective in photos can play funny tricks. I knew about the Donatelli foto, just seems funny that there are "cosmetic copies"....which really aren't!
.....PFFT! The best big horns out there right now are the YB's....I am sure Peter would Satin-ize it for you before plating if you wanted, but what a royal pain that would be. Real silver in satin texture is a bear to clean, thats why it wears so thin so easy. I don't know if you can apply German silver over satin, and frankly I am not sure if the YBs are pure silver or not, but that'd be the ticket for durability & sturdiness, my Holton was buffed to mirror and received German silvering....it tarnishes about 1/10 as fast as my satin tuba
