In "Song & Wind" Mr. Jacobs is quoted as having over 40 (I think!) mouthpieces and 14 (I think!) tubas. He definitely changed equipment to fit the style of what he was playing. He also talked about "strangeness" of new equipment and how that alone could change, and usually improve, one's playing for a time. Then the old bad habits came back and that magic mouthpiece wasn't so magic after all. I'm fortunate enough to have a teacher who has dozens of different mouthpieces that are available to try by his studio. Once you find the one you like the best you can buy it. Maybe there are others out there doing the same thing?
