Big bore = easier to get big volume, and less stuffiness even when using lots of valves.
Small bore = easier to play lightly, and sometimes valves that are less sluggish, more centered tone at soft to moderate playing levels, but limited fortissimo.
Personally, I find that .750" is big enough on a BBb tuba. When it is smaller than that I can feel the difference, but going beyond that size gives me no perceptible improvement.
