John,
As Matt alluded to, the Conn model numbers were a real grab bag, although not as bad in the tuba lines as with other instruments. I once traced a single trombone model designation, which became 50 different horns in the last 80 years or so. But, to give you a vague idea;
Sousaphone- 14 K - standard brass BBb
20 K - large brass BBb, short-action
22 K - large fiberglass BBb, short-act.
36 K - standard fiberglass BBb
26 K - brass Eb, same bore as 14 K
38 K - large brass BBb, regular valves

Tuba- 2 thru 5J - standard size, either 3- or 4-valve BBb or CC
12J - 3-valve top-piston BBb
15J - 3-valve top-piston BBb convertible
15J (old) - 3-valve top-piston BBb
20J - 3-valve short-action, bell-front
21J - 3-valve short-action, bell-up
22J - 3-valve regular valves
24J - 4-valve short-action, bell-front
25J - 4-valve short-action, bell-up
34J - 4-valve std top-action, bell-front
-OR-
- 4-valve std front, with 1-piece bell-up
37J - 4-valve front short-action,bell-up

These are models I have seen during my years as a tuba player- variations probably abound. I hope this helps in some way.
