I recently purchased a Meinl Weston 2145 in December, 1998 and have used it in my brass quintet, concert band, small orchestra , and for solos. I believe it is a good all- around horn with the right mouthpiece. So far I have had success using a modified version of the Bach 12 mouthpiece and the Tuba Exchange Marcinkiewicz Conert Hall (heavy weight) Rose mouthpiece which just came out. The intonation is very good except for a slight tendency to go sharp on the sixth partial, and the low register is very good.
The large piston valves are excellent when broken in properly.
The only reservation I have about the horn is that the sound is not quite as big as I can get on my Miraphone 188, which I prefer for larger orchestral and band works, and outdoor brass quintet concerts.
